It is Wednesday morning here in Croatia, and after 12+ hours of sleep I'm feeling much better.
My flights went relatively smoothly aside from the deprivation of sleep. The flight from Boston to Frankfurt was packed, and I found myself stuck between two people. They were nice enough but failed to observe the same rules regarding personal space as I. For a meal it was either "pasta" or "chicken." I went for the chicken, and it was much better than I would have expected although I don't think there was an ounce of white meat in it. Drinks were also being served at no extra cost which I found unexpected. The guy in front of me must have had six beers by the time we landed. There were little televisions stuck to the ceiling of the cabin, and from time to time they would display some statistics about the flight. We were cruising at about 38,000 feet and 600 mph. The temperature outside the cabin was reported as -72 degrees Fahrenheit, but you wouldn't know it from the stagnant air inside.
It was about 6am local time when we landed in Frankfurt. I really just wanted to go to bed, but I forced myself to eat something. I'm pretty sure I paid 10USD for a cup of fruit, but I used euros so it seemed less than that. Having wandered down to my gate, I curled up on an empty bench and caught a little sleep. The flight from Frankfurt to Dubrovnik was considerably shorter and considerably less crowded. I had a row to myself, and I caught a little more sleep.
In Dubrovnik, Zoran was waiting for us as promised. He brought a van that easily fit all of us and all of our stuff. We made a couple of stops and then arrived at the apartments. The building is new and, in fact, still under construction. Our apartments are finished, of course, but Akan told us to watch out for the wet paint as we walked up the stairs. The rest of the afternoon was uneventful, and sleep soon followed.
Zoran is coming by around ten this morning to pick us up. I'm not sure what he has planned, but I hope it includes eating. The plane food was good but not that good.
